“I am a health services researcher who studies nurses’ work environments, particularly nurse leadership, care delivery design, safe staffing and workload management. I was the academic and research lead for the BC Nursing Leadership Institute [BCNLI] (2005-2010). Over a 5-year period, the BCNLI trained and supported over 450 novice nurse leaders. I longitudinally tracked BCNLI leaders and their staff with funds from the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation. Leadership development does make a positive significant difference to leaders and their staff! Most recently, I have been using realist methods to study team processes in primary health care settings, and I am a co-investigator on a provincial grant to examine leadership practices for pandemic management in the long-term care sector.”
